Baltimore's history with Jets has been one
BALTIMORE On the bright, slightly breezy afternoon of Nov. 2, 1997, the professional relationship between the Jets and the Baltimore Ravens was born. Sixty degrees, relative humidity of 93 percent, and a full house at the old Meadowlands to watch the ninth game of Bill Parcells' tenure in green.
Vinny Testaverde still a Raven drove Baltimore wholesale jerseys down the field for a tying touchdown in the fourth quarter, but John Hall ended things in overtime from 37 yards out and the Jets had a 19 16 win, a 6 3 mark and there hadn't been a giddier time among Jets faithful in quite a long time.
The Jets, we know, made their bones and their reputation thanks to the city of Baltimore, thanks to beating the mighty Colts in Super Bowl III. Soon thereafter, they became tenants of the same division the AFC East and playing 27 times, with the Colts taking a small measure of revenge, winning 15 of those games.
It has been the Ravens, however, who have answered whatever ancient residue of disappointment might still linger near the Inner Harbor. How do we put this nicely? The Ravens own the Jets. The Ravens stone the Jets. The Ravens have beaten the Jets with Joe Flacco and Trent Dilfer their two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks under center, and with Eric Zeier and Anthony Wright calling signals.
The Ravens beat the Jets like a drum early in New York's second best season ever, Parcells' second year of 1998, which wound up 12 4 but sat at 0 2 after the Ravens drilled the Jets 24 10 in the home opener. The Super Bowl bound Ravens beat the Jets two years later when they had nothing to play for and the Jets had everything to play for, racing out to a quick 14 0 lead before crumbling on the season's final day.
The Ravens won the season opener of what was probably the Jets' third best season, 2010, a 10 9 squeaker that was also the Green's first ever regular season game at MetLife Stadium. A year later, they provided a blueprint a year that would soon be religiously copied of how to baffle Mark Sanchez, stalking him all across a 34 17 Sunday night game in Baltimore forcing two fumbles that were returned for touchdowns and inducing a pick six for good measure, too.
So, yes: this hasn't been a kind rivalry for the Jets.
And that's despite the fact that across the past few years, the teams have mirrored each other thanks to the presence of Rex Ryan on the Jets sideline, Ryan having had a hand in four of the Ravens' seven wins since '98, with some help from a slew of Baltimore imports from Jim Leonhard and Bart Scott to the latest import, Ed Reed, one of the cornerstone names in Ravens history.
So it is into this cauldron the Jets will step this afternoon, when they try to do as they have done all year, to follow a loss with a win, to nudge themselves a thin game over .500 before ever having spent a second south cheap jerseys of it. It will be an enormous task even if these Ravens are barely a whisker of the team that won it all in February, are themselves 4 6 and navigating a slipper path to retain playoff relevance.
"I spent 10 great years there, but this is my team," Ryan said earlier this week, recalling his time on the Other Side. "This is my team. I'll always cherish my years I had there, without question. I had a lot of fond memories there. There are a lot of people in that building that I learned a lot from and some of those are guys that helped me get in this position today. So, I'll always be thankful and grateful for that."
Philadelphia Eagles
Kansas City Chiefs (2 0) at Philadelphia Eagles (1 1)
Andy Reid's hasty return to The Linc is the big story backdrop of this primetime affair, but it's a very critical game for the Eagles for reasons other than the visit from their burly former coach. Philly knows it let a winnable game get away last Sunday against San Diego, and that means the Eagles can't afford to go 0 2 against the AFC West after three weeks. Especially since Philadelphia is staring at a three game road trip through Denver, the Giants and Tampa Bay after Kansas City leaves town. Reid and his Chiefs would love to leave a mark on the Eagles' psyche and soar to 3 0, but Chip Kelly's team absolutely has to win this showdown between the franchise's past and present.
The Texans are walking a tight rope that's not sustainable, becoming the first team since the 1970 merger to open the season with consecutive wins on the final play of the game. Beating San Diego and Tennessee that way is impressive enough, but the Baltimore home field advantage is something not to be trifled with. The Ravens haven't put four good quarters together yet, but doing things the hard way is just their style. It would seem old friend Ed Reed (hip) is preparing to finally make his Texans debut this week, just in time for the trip to Charm City and the Wes Welker Men's Jersey ceremony that will induct ex teammate Ray Lewis into the Ravens' Ring of Honor.
Green Bay Packers (1 1) at Cincinnati Bengals (1 1)
I didn't even realize my two Super Bowl picks were meeting in Week 3, but here you go, an early preview of the matchup that will play through the prevailing wind, snow, ice and sub zero temperatures at MetLife Stadium in early February. Well, we can dream, can't we? I would like to think the Bengals will defend their home turf all season, but I really didn't see much out of Cincy quarterback Andy Dalton Monday night against Pittsburgh. As for Aaron Rodgers, he will one day have a game in which the ball never touches the ground. Except for, you know, when it's being snapped to him.
New York Giants (0 2) at Carolina Panthers (0 2)
Since starting last season at 6 2 as the defending Super Bowl champions, the Giants are a woeful 3 7 and back to their sloppy ways on the turnover front. New York has a league worst 10 turnovers, with seven interceptions, in eight quarters of play, and the only thing it hasn't dropped is Tom Coughlin's blood pressure. One more loss and Carolina is again going to see a season plagued by a slow start, which will no doubt doom the Ron Rivera coaching era and make all those Cam Newton questions resurface.
Cleveland Browns (0 2) at Minnesota Vikings (0 2)
That blockbuster Trent Richardson trade on Wednesday should make it clear the Browns front office has made its mind up about currently injured quarterback Brandon Weeden (not to mention his presumed backup, Jason Campbell, who just got jumped by Brian Hoyer on the depth chart). Thanks for dropping by, Brandon. Cleveland just went all in on the quarterback rich 2014 draft, while the Colts just went all in on the 2013 season. It was a gutsy call by the Browns, and time will tell if it's the right move or another disaster in the making on the lakefront. Speaking of quarterbacks who have played their way out of their team's plans, the Vikings' Christian Ponder had better have an impressive Sunday or he'll soon join Weeden on the train to nowhere.
Detroit www.footballbroncosprostore.com/broncos-demarcus-ware-jersey-c-60.html Lions (1 1) at Washington Redskins (0 2)
I offer a hopeful statistic for Washington fans needing to calm themselves and regain some equilibrium after a tumultuous first two weeks in the nation's capital: The Lions are 0 21 when visiting Washington, which might be the most remarkable set of numbers in NFL history. The Lions certainly could end that streak of futility, but Robert Griffin III and Co. should be playing with a sense of desperation at 0 2, and this is the week desperation will make the difference.
Atlanta Falcons (1 1) at Miami Dolphins (2 0)
Here's what a win in their home opener would mean for the Dolphins: Since the playoffs expanded to 12 teams in 1990, 75.4 percent (86 of 114) of the clubs that started 3 0 reached the postseason. The Dolphins haven't been 3 0 since 2002, and the bandwagon will start to fill in South Florida if they can knock off the powerful Falcons. The key will be getting pressure on Matt Ryan, the Atlanta quarterback the Bill Parcells led Fish elected to pass on in favor of Jake Long in the 2008 draft. Miami is tied for the league lead in sacks with nine.
Buffalo Bills (1 1) at New York Jets (1 1)
Barring a tie, one of these rookie quarterbacks is going to get his career off to a 2 1 start, and inspire a little early season excitement in an NFL locale that hasn't seen much success of late. Geno Smith needs to get the turnover issue fixed his careless play wrecked New York's chances in the fourth quarter at New England in Week 2. But the Bills' EJ Manuel has tried his coach's patience at times, too, and will be playing in his first ever NFL road environment at MetLife Stadium. In the battle of New York upstate versus the metro area I like the Men of Green just a tad better.
Indianapolis Colts (1 1) at DeMarcus Ware Men's Jersey San Francisco 49ers (1 1)
Don't ever remember seeing Jim Harbaugh wear glasses on the sideline like he did last Sunday night in Seattle. It was almost as www.footballbroncosprostore.com/broncos-wes-welker-jersey-c-17.html if the 49ers' head coach couldn't believe his eyes, given the whipping the bad ass Seahawks were administering to his talented and well balanced team. San Francisco was probably in a foul mood this week with wounded pride, and that means the Colts could suffer the consequences. Welcome back to the Bay Area, Andrew Luck. Now kindly prepare for defeat, signed, the 49ers.
Oakland Raiders (1 1) at Denver Broncos (2 0)
We're coming up on the first anniversary of the Broncos' last regular season loss in a couple weeks. Denver has won 13 in a row outside of the postseason, with that 10 point loss at New England in Week 5 of 2012 representing its most recent failure. The Broncos have started both of their games slowly, so the Raiders could hang around for a while on Monday night. But Oakland and Terrelle Pryor aren't near ready to punch in the heavyweight division of the AFC West.

So in a way, Manning and Foles Peyton Manning Men's Jersey are in a league of their own as the only two players to achieve the feat in 44 years. The fact that they did it in the same season within two months of each other makes their accomplishments all the more special.
First, let's look at the stats. Manning completed 27 of 42 passes for 462 yards with no interceptions and a 141.1 passer rating in the Broncos' 49 27 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Foles completed 22 of 28 passes for 406 yards with no interceptions and a 158.3 rating in Sunday's 49 20 win over the Oakland Raiders.
So Manning threw for 56 more yards but attempted 14 fewer passes. Manning was up against the defending Super Bowl champs, something that was way more impressive in Week 1 than it is now that the Ravens have stumbled to a 3 5 record (the same as the Raiders).
Foles was removed with the game well in hand at the 9:23 mark of the fourth quarter, so we'll never know if he actually could have made history by tossing one more touchdown pass. Manning played the entire game on his record tying night, with his last points coming with Ryan Clady Men's Jersey 4:30 remaining.
One thing that's for sure is that Foles' accomplishment was more unexpected. Manning is a www.footballbroncosprostore.com/broncos-peyton-manning-jersey-c-9.html four time league MVP and a one time Super Bowl MVP who had already thrown for six touchdowns in a game more than once during his 16 year career.
If asked to name the person likely to match Manning's feat, the average NFL fan might name New Orleans' Drew Brees, Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers . or Manning himself, who has thrown 29 touchdown passes in eight games this season.
A backup quarterback, making the ninth start of his two year NFL career, whose previous game high was three touchdown passes against Tampa Bay two weeks ago, would probably not be mentioned.
Deer antler as performance
No kidding. According to the the Yahoo! blog, The Post Game, Ray Lewis is among a group of NFL players who allegedly have used a product called The Ultimate Spray from a supplement company, Sports With Alternatives to Steroids.
The spray contains extract of deer antler velvet (the soft fuzz on the antler), in www.nflbuccaneersofficialshop.com/Kadeem_Edwards_Jersey_Buccaneers New Zealand, and sells for $68 a bottle.
This isn't the first time guys have consumed deer antler. It has a two Buccaneers Kevin Pamphile Jersey millennium history in China and other Eastern cultures as a sleep and sexual performance aid.
The secret to the antler's recuperative and muscle building powers is a substance, IGF 1, which is similar to human growth hormone in promoting recovery and improving athletic performance. IGF 1 is banned by the NFL (and the Olympics, too), whether you take it in a pure form or mixed up with whatever else makes up deer antlers.
That said, it's not easy to detect IGF 1 from a bottle, because it similar to Buccaneers Kadeem Edwards Jersey the IGF 1 an athlete produces naturally.
"You www.nflbuccaneersofficialshop.com/Kevin_Pamphile_Jersey_Buccaneers can find it," Jonathan Danaceau, lab director at the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Lab, based in Salt Lake City, told The Post Game. "But saying whether this is synthetic or natural is hard to determine. It's only detectable in blood, and most anti doping tests are done in urine."
We'll have to see how this all shakes out, especially with the NFL and its players preparing for a bruising negotiation of their collective bargaining agreement this offseason that might make movement on performance enhancing drugsdifficult or impossible. But if you see three deer wandering through one of those post game locker room shots on Fox next season, you'll know why.

Fantasy football stock watch
If there is one player I'd be trying to get an upgrade over at this point it would be Cowboys QB Tony Romo. At first glance that probably seems ludicrous, as Romo is fourth among QBs in fantasy points.
But that's mostly due to one outrageous performance against the Broncos.
In the five games since that 506 yard, 5 TD explosion, Romo has been the definition of mediocre, completing just 57 percent of his passes with 8 TDs and 4 INTs. He ranks 13th among QBs in average fantasy points per week (17.0) over that time, right around the production of waiver wire fodder such as Ryan Tannehill (16.5) and Mike Glennon (17.4).
And if it wasn't for a pair of long TD passes to Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams against the Lions both of which came on plays where the ball didn't travel more than 10 yards in the air we'd be talking about some truly sick numbers.
I just dumped Romo for Giants RB Andre Brown and will roll the dice with Cam Newton. In my other league, I was trying to replace Romo by trading for Drew Brees. That fell through, though, and then I got outbid trying to pick up Houston's Case Keenum.
Ready for a truly crazy prediction?
Keenum will outscore Romo from Weeks 12 16 (Dallas is off this week). I believe this for three reasons:
is struggling and just does not look right.
trusts Andre Johnson (5 TDs last two) far more than Matt Schaub did.
and the Texans have a super soft schedule that includes the Jaguars in Weeks 12 and 14, Indy in Week 15 and a home game against Denver in Week 16 fantasy championship week.
Could Case Keenum be starting in a fantasy title game? Sounds crazy, but who knows?
This, of course, is an understandable reaction. We've all grown accustomed to Ryan lighting up the scoreboard and leading fantasy teams to fantastic seasons.
But sometimes you have to switch gears and believe what you are seeing: Namely, that Ryan is awful right now because Julio Jones is out and Roddy White is a shell of his former self. And that Keenum (or Ryan Tannehill or Nick Foles, or maybe even Glennon or Pryor) give your team a better chance to win than Ryan does.
Same goes for a guy named Zac Stacy instead of the washed up Ray Rice. Hilton or Alshon Jeffery over Jordy Nelson.
Circumstances change. Adjust or get buried.
It doesn't get any simpler than that.
My teams: Starting a gimpy Jay Cutler (9 points) over Tony Romo (7) actually would have gotten me a win in my auction league where I lost 51 50 to fall to 5 5. The good news is I have the second most points and would make the playoffs based on that. In the regular league (4 6), I was crushed 122 82 and dropped 15 points behind the final postseason qualifier (last two teams get in on points).
Bucs QB Mike Glennon and WR Vincent Jackson vs. Atlanta. He's not lighting the world on fire, but Glennon (8 TDs, 2 INTs last five) is a better play than Andy Dalton or Josh McCown this week.
Giants RB Andre Brown vs. Green Bay. Play of the week here. Abused by Matt Forte (24 125) and LeSean McCoy (25 155) the last two weeks, the Packers are about to get completely gashed by Brown, who had a whopping 30 carries in his return.
Chargers RBs Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead at Miami. Since Week 2, Woodhead has received double digit touches in every game. He's actually 16th among RBs since then, while Mathews is just 26th. Both are solid plays against a reeling Dolphins team that was just mauled by Bucs RBs for 143 yards on 33 attempts.
Eagles WR Riley Cooper vs. Washington. Eight catches for 241 yards and 5 TDs in Cooper's last two and now Philly gets the ultrasoft Skins. Sure Cooper's getting lucky, but he'll put decent points in this one.
Skins WR Pierre Garcon at Philadelphia. Do you realize Garcon is on pace for 108 catches for 1,428 yards? Neither did I. He's an every week play and could explode against the Eagles.
Bears QB Josh McCown and RB Matt Forte vs. Baltimore. The Ravens have allowed 1 rushing score all season. This game figures to be about a 17 13 final and bereft of fantasy points.
Bengals QB Andy Dalton vs. Cleveland. No other quarterback gone from Stud to Dud faster www.brownsnflofficialonline.com/Johnny_Manziel_Jersey_Browns than Dalton (2 TDs, 6 INTs last two). Don't expect a rebound against the stingy Browns, who held Dalton without a TD pass and to 206 passing yards in Week 4.
Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell vs. www.nfljaguarsofficialshop.com/Blake_Bortles_Jersey_Jaguars Detroit. The last four teams' feature backs to face the Lions have just 147 yards on 58 carries. Bell's in for a long day.
Jaguars RB Maurice Jones Drew vs. Arizona. It's been a semi resurgence for MJD lately Johnny Manziel Browns Jersey as he's averaged 9.8 fantasy points per game the last five games. This is a tough spot, though, and he's nothing more than a flex play.
Patriots WR Danny Amendola at Carolina. I don't trust many players against the Panthers' D. Blake Bortles Jaguars Jersey Sit Amendola if you can.
Packers WR Jordy Nelson at New York Giants. Fremd High School grad Scott Tolzien has the reins now in Green Bay and while he was solid last week, he's going into a hostile environment against a suddenly hot Giants squad.
