A win over the Bengals could save Rex Ryan

A big key will be whether Mornhinweg can continue to nurture and mold Smith into a franchise quarterback.
"You could see each game that he's ready, like if he can put some pads on and go out there and play he would," Cumberland said.
It is all well and good to be a so called players' coach, but that by itself won't save you if you are not respected.
"He has that type of fight in him that makes you want to go out there and fight hard in the fourth quarter and just lay it on the line for that type of dude because you know he makes you feel like he would do it for you," Jeremy Kerley said. "He's a great motivator, he has a great scheme, everything about him kind of motivates people."
I asked Kerley if he senses guys would love to play for Ryan for years and years.
"Definitely," he said. "Like I said, he's just that type of guy. You can't really put your finger on it, it's just the vibe when you get around him."
To some degree, there is always an element of lip service to questions about the coach. But there should be no downplaying the connection this coach has made with these players.
"Walking around, I've never heard anything said bad about Rex, or some guys questioned his judgment on how he goes about things," Willie Colon said. "Whatever Rex says, we just go with it, because that's our belief in him."
The Bengals are 12 1 to win the Super Bowl. The Jets are 100 1.
"One of the reasons I came here was for Rex," Colon said. "I came to be a Jet because of Rex, 'cause of his passionate side, his fearless side. That's how [Steelers coach] Mike [Tomlin] was. Coach Tomlin was a fearless, confident, compassionate person probably not as outspoken as Rex is, but nevertheless, he had no problem stepping up to the plate. That's what you want a coach to do stand behind the guys and you stand behind him. This game is about fighting for each other. Rex is definitely that coach you know he'll fight for you."

Every win came about with some play that saved the Jets behinds from the clutches of defeat. If, if, if. I seem to remember a Jet defensemen crowing how great they had become before the Titans game.
With Smith's penchant of up and down games, as he did at WVU, is it any clearer what will happen Sunday? Get ready for another air out of your balloons, fellow Jet fans.

Ryan's first two years with Ravens as line coach, ranked 6 and number 1. Clearly it was all Ryan. And Ryan continues to build excellent defenses with Jets but never having a qualified OC as his side kick.
This team still has a chance to be special
After the loss to Philadelphia last week, Packers coach Mike McCarthy was furious.
After the loss to the New York Giants Sunday night, he was more introspective.
The Packers' 27 13 loss to the Giants was their third in a row and dropped them to .500 for the first time since Week 2. Despite unsightly performances up and down the roster, McCarthy said he was not giving up on his team and expects better things in the future.
But while players were searching for answers to their three game losing streak, McCarthy said he knew them.
"We need to get better," McCarthy said after the game. "We not playing well enough to win right now and we recognize that and we know what the issues are. We don need stat sheets or opinions to attempt to knock us off our focus. I think this football team still has a chance to be special."
McCarthy admitted that QB Scott Tolzien's three interceptions five in two games were too many, but he said he wasn't going to lay the whole thing on him.
When asked about what needs to happen for the defense to get better, he turned the focus to the team.
"I not going to sit here and give you an evaluation," McCarthy said. "We didn play well enough as a football team. It starts with head coach.
"I tell you this about this football team. This football team has a lot of character, the leadership has grown immensely. Times like this is when you see it. I proud of the way they handling these challenges. Every year you go down a different road. This road has had a lot of things thrown at us so far. I firmly believe it will only make us stronger.
"We will come in here tomorrow do everything we can to get ready to beat the Vikings. That our mindset. We talked about it as a team after the game, give the Giants their due. They won four in a row. It an excellent football team, well coached top to bottom."
McCarthy said there was only one thing that would satisfy his appetite for improvement.
"It about winning," he said. "We don have to dance around the fact we lost three in a row. We need to win games. We not doing enough of the little things top to bottom. Are we tackling well enough? Are we making enough plays? We not getting the ball in the end zone.
"So, we need to score more points and we need to keep them out of the end zone more. We need more big play production. That how you win in this league."

He knows it, everybody knows it, five interceptions in two games is something that will be addressed.
"But I felt he really improved in a lot of areas today, playing in our system. I felt maybe I put too much on his plate early in the week. He the type of individual that will do everything you ask and then some. I have to be smart with him. His performance was like our football team. I didn coach well enough and our team didn play well enough to win."

Hindsight is 20/20, but yes the Packers did not have a quality backup QB going into this season. BJ Coleman, Graham Harrel, Vince Young, Seneca Wallace, Scott Tolzien, and Matt Flynn; and, not none of them was prepared to step in and win a game. Is that on Thompson or the coaching staff? Now on to the Giants game. Besides the interceptions I saw: Ryan Taylor (82) miss his block on the fake punt which came up 1yd. short; Kuhn, who we are repeatedly told is the smartest Packer, fail to utilize Sitton's block on the screen pass for what would have been an easy score and despite being positioned to help Newhouse block on a pass play dart off to the left for no reason which resulted in a sack, along with a number of other negative plays ; too many low snaps from our center; terrible run blocking from every member of our line; terrible fundamentals from our secondary; and just a complete absence of attention to detail. For example, on the punt that Mycha Hyde let go into the end zone why didn't he at least block the Giants player that nearly tossed the ball back to the 1yd line? Twelve players on the field twice are you kidding? Kudos to Tramon Williams for his pick and more importantly his outstanding tackling. Aaron Rogers is out I get that, but this organization failed to have a veteran backup going back to the OTA's; and, there are way too many problems: defensive players can't get off their blocks; safeties don't drive on the ball; offensive lineman don't sustain their blocks long enough; and we're not getting to opposing quarterbacks often enough. Apparently, the majority of our recent past success has been the play of Aaron Rogers. Losing Nick Collins was tough, but when is our defense going to show some marked improvement?
This team can still be special? Really? McCarthy wouldn't recognize a straight answer if it jumped in from of him. He keeps spewing crap so that he makes it look like he knows what he is talking about.
He needs to wake up and fire Dom Capers after this year is over. And, I keep hearing it's not the trainers that are responsible for conditioning, but whoever is responsible needs to go out the same door as Capers.

Jakes supposedly gave the former football star a bit of advice on how to skirt the system and hide his fortune to protect himself from financial liability.
If any of what she's saying is true, this could mean serious legal consequences for the preacher.
We've been following the ongoing bitter divorce between Deion and Pilar Sanders from the beginning. Ever since news emerged in late 2011 that the once happy couple had split, a lot has happened, including accusations of abuse and infidelity being levied by both sides. Just last week, Deion was awarded full custody of the couple's two sons, and joint custody of their daughter. The decision was a crushing blow for Pilar, but the model/actress is gunning for a better outcome when the court makes a decision in their battle over finances.
Enter Texas native Nikke Sanni. Nikke claims to have been in a relationship with gospel star Fred Hammond for 2 years, and is preparing to testify about a meeting she says took place in early 2011, during which Deion allegedly sought advice on what to do with his money to create the illusion that he's not as well off as many believe. Her story is pretty shocking (particularly who's involved), and we have our own opinions about her accusations, but read on so you can formulate your own.
Did you have a relationship with either Deion or Pilar Sanders prior to you coming forward?
You allege that you were dating Fred Hammond at the time of the incident you are about to speak of, correct?
How long had the two of you been dating?
NS: We were dating for approximately a year before this meeting, and we dated for another year after it happened, so it was a total of two years.
Now get into your story. Talk about the first time you allegedly met Deion Sanders.
NS: We were at Fred's house. Jakes, Deion Sanders, and another man of whom I have no idea who he is. He came in with Deion, he left with Deion, I don't know who he is. And that was my first time ever seeing Deion.
What was the subject of conversation?
NS: That he [Deion] was getting ready to file for a divorce, and there was something wrong with the prenuptial agreement, and he did not want her [Pilar] to take his money. He was like worried. Jakes was there helping him, giving him advice, kind of guiding him rather, on what to do with his money so that it wouldn't look like he had so much when the divorce happens. Jakes and Deion talking. Fred wasn't really saying anything, and the other guy wasn't really saying anything. Jakes type situation.
Were they the least bit uncomfortable with you being in the room considering what they were discussing? It seems a little odd that Deion would be comfortable with talking about that with someone in the room he did not know.
NS: I wasn't sitting directly in the room. I was eavesdropping in the room. I wasn't like sitting on the couch with themthey were all sitting in the sitting area. I was eavesdropping on the meeting. I came down for a second to get a good look, and went back up, but I was not invited, nor was I sitting in the sitting room with them at the time, no. Jakes being as big as he is, and Deion. Are you prepared to deal with the repercussions of coming forward and testifying?
NS: Am I prepared? I guess I'll have to get prepared. Am I afraid? Absolutely, absolutely afraid. Jakes is huge, yes Deion Sanders is huge, but they're not bigger than God. And I know I'm telling the truth, and with that, I'm okay. But I'm not going to lie and say I'm not scared. I am. I'm absolutely. I don't have no idea what they're going to come back with or how they're going to do it, but they know it's true.
Have Pilar's lawyers been preparing you to testify? Have you been meeting with her lawyers?
NS: I've met with her lawyers, I am preparing to testify in the divorce phase of the trial. I did not testify in the custody battle because this has nothing to do with custody. I don't know anything about Deion's parental skillslet me just say this on record, okay. I don't know Mr. Sanders as a person, as a human being. Jakes. But, I'm doing what's right, and what I'm doing, like I said, has nothing to do with custody John Brown Jersey of their children, so that's why I didn't testify at the [custody phase of the case], but I will be there at the divorce trial.
It would be easier, considering what you're up against, to not say anything about what you heard that day. It won't affect you if things don't go Pilar's way in their divorce. Why say anything knowing your credibility is going to be questioned and possibly worse?
NS: I'll be honest with you. The reason why, if you want to know the deep rooted reason why I'm doing itwhen I got back home after they had that meeting, I was in a close relationship with my mother, and I went straight to my mom. Jakes, and that big ol' guy that was there. I went to my mother, and I was like, "Mom, you're not going to believe what kind of meeting Fred sat in on." It was more of let me tell my mom what my guy is doing. And my mother said to me, "You need to reach out and let that woman know what's going on." And, initially I was like, "You're crazy. I'm not doing that," because I'm was still with Fred. I was very much in love with Fred, very much so. And I didn't want to jeopardize my relationship with my man for somebody I didn't know who she is or where she comes from. But talking to my mother, she was the one that said, "You're a woman just like she's a woman. And if this was you and Fred, and another woman sat in and heard he was going to do that to you, wouldn't you want to know?" And it stayed on my conscience, it ate me up all day, all night. Until I decided I've got to do the right thing. It was my mother, she deserves the credit.
Do you remember the exact month and year that the meeting you just spoke of allegedly took place?
NS: Absolutely, because I was there for my birthday. It was February of 2011. My birthday is February 8. So it was the beginning of February that the meeting took place.
Okay, and you said you and Fred continued dating for a year after that?
NS: We didn't break up until the summer time of 2012.
NS: I don't remember the specifics. I just know he was telling him, "This is what you do. You put your money here" Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But, no, I do not remember exactly. I wish I did because I'd be more than happy to help her, but I don't know, and I can't make it up.

New York Jets 3 19 Baltimore Ravens
Joe Flacco threw a 66 yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Jones, Justin Tucker kicked four field goals and the Baltimore Ravens shut down the sputtering offense of the New York Jets in a 19 3 victory.

Pittsburgh Steelers 27 11 Cleveland Browns
Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes and beat Cleveland again as the Pittsburgh Steelers moved back into the playoff picture with a 27 11 win over the Browns.
Roethlisberger connected on a 41 yard touchdown pass to Antonio Brown in the first half, and hit Emmanuel Sanders on a 4 yarder in the third quarter for the Steelers (5 6), who have turned around their season following a 0 4 start.
