Why do the birds go crazy about dusk every night
A bird's typical day is organized as follows:
Morning wake, call out to let every other bird know it's still alive and in the area, feed.
While the deeper meanings of these evening gatherings are not as well understood, the essential idea is that they are declaring their existence in the area or roost site, or letting others of their kind know (in the case of more communal species) that this is a good place to roost (there is safety from predators in numbers). Many species of birds gather together at dusk in preparation to spending the night in a large group, or roosting for the night. Sometimes there are thousands of individual birds in these groups.
No one knows exactly why various species of birds do this. One possibility, of couse, is the idea of safety in numbers. By gathering in very large groups the risk of any individual bird falling prey to a nocturnal predator such as an owl becomes very low.
Another possibility relates to the observed fact that this behavior, especially in some species, is more common in winter. That is by gathering in large groups the birds moderate the effects of cold weather with the collective heat of massed bodies. The socialization aspects are vital to these birds in seeking out mates. As Westerfield says, "The communal roost serves primarily a social function where birds challenge each other, find potential mates, and communicate, in one way or another, their individual and joint experiences."
This certainly appears to be the case with parrots, who gather morning and evening for mutual grooming and social interaction.
This is a description of what crows do:
"During the day, the crow population may be spread out Wholesale Jerseys over a very wide area, but perhaps an hour or more before dusk, birds will begin to fly towards the roost, collecting together into ever larger flocks as they get nearer. Generally, it seems as though most birds do not fly directly to the communal roost, but stop at nearby "staging areas".
In some cases there may be several staging areas fairly near the roost. Often staging areas are in cemeteries or other areas where fairly open areas are surrounded by or interspersed with trees. Birds will fill the surrounding trees, hunt for food on the ground, and engage in general socializing. A roosting area may be virtually empty while nearby thousands of crows mill about in a staging area.
As dusk approaches, the birds will abandon the staging area and gather in the communal roost. Often every suitable branch on every tree for a considerable distance will have a crow occupying it and there are constant alarms and mass flights and continual interactions of birds both in flight and in the trees. The noise level can be tremendous. As it grows dark the birds settle down and remain quite until dawn when they disperse again. Cheap NFL Jerseys
Almost nothing is known about why crows form these communal roosts or of the dynamics of the populations involved. It appears that crows will travel considerable distances to a roost, but that not necessarily every crow in an area will travel to a particular roost every night. There is some indication that some individual crows may go to a roost some nights but not others."
. "In a thicket of birches among the dunes just to the south of my camp a multitude of swal spend the nights in the latter part of the summer, and they are interesting neighbors. On one August evening I watched them from the top of a dune. They began to arrive about six o and the majority came from the west, from the region of the setting sun, and flew in a continuous sheet, perhaps a third of a mile wide, skimming for the most part close to the sand, but mounting occasionally high into the sky. As the birds sped by me, they often flew within a few feet or inches, and at times barely grazed the sand. Tree swallows were in the majority, while barn swallows formed perhaps a fourth part of the whole, and there were a few bank but no eave swallows. The characteristic notes of the three species could be heard from time to time, but the birds were for the most part silent, although occasionally a barn swallow would break forth into his always delightful song. The flight was an irregular and waver one, but the multitudes were intent on their goal, wearied, no doubt, by the day work and play. Occasionally two would stop in their onward career, playfully to attack each other in mid air, and at times, for no apparent reason but as the impulse seized them, a sudden upward or even retrograde movement of all the birds would occur. The sun set at five minutes of seven, but the birds still poured by in the gathering dusk, while the air to the north and west appeared filled with black forms against the luminous yellow haze made by the rays of the departed sun. At ten minutes past seven, already dusk, the birds were pressing on in undiminished num Two minutes later they suddenly stopped coming, with the exception of a few stragglers, while a great mass of whirling, twittering birds could be seen over the birch thicket to the south. The blackness of the undergrowth of ferns was relieved by the numerous white droppings of the roosting birds. In the dark not a swallow could be seen amid the thick foliage, but a constant conversational twittering revealed their presence. As I en the grove the noise became greater, and a number of birds above my head took flight. I shook a tree and a frightened mass of swal flew out with whirring wings. I slept that night on the top of a pointed dune a short distance to the west of the swallows. About four o I heard a few swallows going over, and ten minutes later a large number of these birds sprang suddenly into the clear, cool morning air that was already faintly glowing with the light of the coming sun. Hither and yon they flew in the exuberance of their joy of living, describing irregular curves and partial circles, fluttering their wings rapidly and bursting out into song which proclaimed their identity. The song was that of the barn swallow, and the com effect of the great multitude of singers was delightful in the extreme. All appeared to be barn swallows, although in the imperfect light identification by sight was difficult. In a few minutes the joyful birds dispersed. Many, still singing, flew over my sandy couch high in the air towards the west, and soon all were gone. The effect was a pleasing musical jingling, that seemed to shower down from the sky, as many hundreds, perhaps thousands, of tree swallows rose in the air. As they went north and west they flew for the most part lower than the previous band of barn swallows, that now seemed small in comparison. They did not skim close to the cold sand, however, as at night, but were perhaps one hundred feet up. At a quarter of five a mixed flock of about a hundred swallows flew over me as I lay on my dune top. In this group barn, tree, and bank swallows could all be distinguished. The sun rose out of the sea at eight minutes of five. Another day of hunting and sport!" From SAND DUNES AND SALT MARSHES, BY CHARLES WENDELL TOWNSEND, M. D.

Prior to 2005, the NFL's primary method of promoting its game abroad was through the American Bowl, a series of preseason games played around the world, and NFL Europe, a developmental league based in Europe. The American Bowls ended in 2005 (though a similar China Bowl was planned for 2007 before being cancelled), while NFL Europe (then known as NFL Europa) folded in 2007. On October 2, 2005, the Arizona Cardinals defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31 14 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, under the name NFL Ftbol Americano. It was the first regular season NFL game held outside of the United States.[2] The game drew the NFL's highest game attendance at the time with 103,467 spectators.[2][3]Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the National Football League, has considered expanding the league's appeal overseas ever since the end of NFL Europa. Goodell has openly discussed the idea of holding a future Super Bowl game in .[2] The NFL also investigated the possibility of adding a 17th regular season game to all teams, taking the place of the fourth pre season game.[4] Waller notes that there won't be 16 different venues for the 17th games. More likely would be a "mini season ticket" of perhaps four games in one city or country.[4] There was discussion that this "17th game" could take effect as early as the 2009 NFL season; however, 2010 would be the earliest this could be implemented because of concerns about playing on Labor Day or over the 2010 Winter Olympics, the league's rigid scheduling formula, and the league's collective bargaining agreement (CBA).[4] League officials were pondering moving a second existing game abroad for the 2010 season, but eventually abandoned it due to the ongoing CBA negotiations.[5] The league eventually abandoned their desire to expand the NFL season in the CBA negotiations, and the new CBA enacted in 2011 keeps the NFL schedule at 16 games.Games in the United Kingdom are broadcast on Sky Sports, and also as of 2013 on Channel 4 and its sister More4 with an HD option where available, while highlights are shown on the BBC. On radio, the games are broadcast by BBC Radio 5 Live, with Arlo White commentating.Typically, one of the games in Europe is played on the last weekend of October and/or the same weekend as Major League Baseball's World Series (although in 2009, this was not the case because the World Series played one week later than usual). ET to account for time zone differences; also, on the last Sunday in October, daylight saving time ends in Europe, one week earlier than it ends in the United States. Because of this, a game in with a 1:00 pm EDT kickoff would begin at 5:00 pm local time instead of 6:00 pm. Games played in Canada or Mexico would not be subject to these restrictions because they are in the same time zones as the United States. With the exception of 2011 and the Oakland vs Miami and Atlanta vs Detroit 2014 games, all games have featured a team from each conference. The games have been popular, with tickets for the two games per season selling out in two days, nine months in advance. According to the NFL, only 3% of those attending the games are Americans or American expatriates, while 22% are from and 60% from elsewhere in Britain. Ticket prices are from 35 for end zone seats to 100 for lower sideline seats.[6] Teams that are selected to give up a home game to play overseas are typically franchises that have been struggling with attendance at home games. In an effort to promote season ticket sales, this allows teams to sell a cheaper season ticket package that contains only seven regular season games rather than the usual eight. On October 11, 2011, the NFL owners approved playing NFL games in Great Britain through the year 2016. This stated that a home team could visit every year for up to five years but visitors could only visit once every five years.[7] This would mean that under the current agreement, San Francisco, New England, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Miami and Detroit will not be able to return as visitors but may return as the home team. The Buffalo Bills received a unanimous vote of approval to play a series of regular and preseason games at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario from 2008 2017,[8][9] This will be separate from the regular International Series as arrangements are made by the team as opposed to the league as with the International Series. The hosted the New York Giants at Wembley in , England on October 28, 2007. The Giants defeated the Dolphins 13 10 in the first regular season NFL game held outside of North America. The first 40,000 tickets sold out for the game in the first 90 minutes of sales.[2][10]The game was aired on Fox, but was not available nationwide in the United States. Portions of the midwestern and Rocky Mountain areas of the United States did not get to see the game on television, as they were shown a regional game.[11] Thom Brennaman, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa were assigned to call the game.[12]The 49ersofficialnflauthentic.com/authentic-brandon-thomas-jersey.html New Orleans Saints hosted the San Diego Chargers at Wembley on October 26, 2008. The game ended with New Orleans winning, 37 32.[13]Like the 2007 game, this matchup was not seen nationally, having only regional coverage on CBS. The game was televised regionally in the United States by CBS and on Sky Sports and BBC One in the United Kingdom. CBS broadcasters Jim Nantz and Phil Simms were again assigned to the game. Simms noted during the opening of the game that "the fans in came up to him and said they were more excited about this game than the previous two." It is most notably because the New England Patriots have a massive fan base in the United Kingdom and the fact that quarterback Tom Brady was the center of attention by the British media from the moment the Patriots arrived in , more than the designated "home" team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whose owner, Malcolm Glazer, also owns Manchester United.[13]On October 31, 2010, the game was again played at 's Wembley . The San Francisco 49ers won 24 16 over the .[14] The weather, like the first 2007 NFL International Series game between the Dolphins and the Giants, was rainy throughout the day (but went on to clear up as the game itself approached). The game itself was a slow burner until the final period when it exploded into life. With Denver looking to steal the 'away' win, the 49ers, led by Troy Smith went on to take a 24 10 lead late in the game and went on to take the win 24 16. Had the NFL lockout not been resolved by August 1, it would have reverted to Tampa Bay's Raymond James ; the lockout was lifted on July 25, allowing the game to go forward.[15] The game was the first in the International Series to feature two teams from the same conference (the NFC); a similar break from tradition was planned for the ultimately canceled Hall of Fame Game that year, which would have also featured the Bears.[16] No reason was given for the change in either game. As this was an NFC away game, the game was televised on Fox, with their number two announcing team of Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa. The Bears dominated the first half thanks to Matt Fort's early touchdown in the game. Tampa Bay struck back by forcing a safety on Fort, as well as an attempted second half comeback, but Tampa Bay's hopes of winning were dashed when Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman threw a game ending interception to Bears cornerback Tim Jennings, sealing a Bears 24 18 victory.[17]On January 20, 2012, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that from 2012 to 2014, the St. Louis Rams would play one of its eight home games each year at Wembley .[18] The first of those games was on Sunday, October 28, 2012, against one of their interconference opponents, the New England Patriots. However, on August 13, 2012, the team announced that they would not play the proposed games in in 2013 and 2014.[19] Goodell had previously proposed the use of certain regular teams in the International Series in an effort to build a fan base for those teams, raising the prospect of a permanent NFL team on the British Isles. CBS aired the game, assigning their top announcing team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms. The Patriots eventually won the game 45 7 in front of fans.[20][21][22]On August 21, 2012, the announced they had agreed to play a home game in for four seasons from 2013 through 2016. Jacksonville will replace the St. Louis Rams, who backed out of a deal to play there in 2013 and 2014. With this announcement also came news that the NFL were working to schedule another UK game from 2013 onwards.[23] On October 11, 2012, it was announced that the Jaguars were to face the San Francisco 49ers on October 27, 2013.[24] This was the 49ers second game in (after the 2010 game against the ) and third internationally (after the 2005 Ftbol Americano game against the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City). The San Francisco Jacksonville game was aired on Fox, but with one of their lower tier announcing teams: Chris Myers and Tim Ryan. The 49ers ended up defeating the Jaguars 42 10.On October 14, 2012, ESPN leaked a rumor the would also play a home game in during the 2013 season, which will be the first time two games were played internationally in a season.[25] The Vikings later confirmed this and confirmed that the official announcement and details were due to be made at the NFL owners' meeting in Chicago on October 16.[26] At this meeting, it was revealed that the Vikings would play the in on September 29, 2013.[27] CBS once again assigned their top announcing team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms to call the game. The Vikings defeated the Steelers 34 27.[28]The NFL announced two additional games for the 2014 season, with the Oakland Raiders hosting the on Brandon Thomas Kids Jersey September 28 and the Atlanta Falcons hosting the Detroit Lions on October 26 in addition to the ' home game against the Dallas Cowboys on November 9.
Marshawn Lynch could be going down a risky route with the Seahawks
The happy go lucky portion of the Seahawks championship offseason is over now. Marshawn Lynch is reportedly upset and seeking a new contract. And it doesn take the New Orleans Saints to fear what happens when Beast Mode makes a run for the money.
He threatening to skip a mandatory minicamp next week, which could result in a fine of about $70,000. There are reports that he could just retire if the Seahawks don meet his demands. It impossible to believe he would exit the game at age 28, but when it comes to the eccentric Lynch, you should proceed into the unknown with caution. He the ultimate wild card, always.
On the other hand, the Seahawks built a dominant team with shrewd and cutthroat business decisions. Two years ago, they made Lynch one of the five highest paid running backs in the NFL, signing him to a four year, $30 million contract. Lynch is only about to enter the third year of that deal. The organization is adamant about not setting a precedent of renegotiating contracts this early, especially under pressure. And that a smart way to manage the NFL hard salary cap.
It also hypocritical because, in this league of partially guaranteed contracts, the system allows the team to tear up contracts whenever they want to, but when a player wants to do the same, 49ersofficialnflauthentic.com/authentic-jimmie-ward-jersey.html the message is that a deal is binding.
When you think about it that way, it understandable that Lynch would request a new deal. The Seahawks were quite generous in giving him that $30 million contract in 2012 because, at that time, Lynch had posted just one 1,000 yard season in Seattle, and, really, the running back had performed at an elite level for only half a season. Now, though, Lynch is the most important offensive weapon on a Super Bowl winning team.
Over the past two seasons, he has had the best two years of his career, amassing 2,847 rushing yards (1,423.5 yards per season) and 23 touchdowns in the regular season. And in five postseason games Jimmie Ward Kids Jersey since he signed that contract, he has averaged 93.2 rushing yards, 4.6 yards per carry and scored six touchdowns.
Does he deserve more money? Absolutely, he can make that claim. And with all the chatter about the Seahawks cutting Lynch after next season or needing him to take a pay cut, he right to explore getting more money while he has the leverage of being the smash mouth inspiration 49ersofficialnflauthentic.com/authentic-carlos-hyde-jersey.html of a team aiming to win back to back championships.
But Lynch won be successful trying to force the Seahawks into a new deal by skipping voluntary workouts (as usual), missing next week mandatory three day session and hinting at retirement. If Seahawks general manager John Schneider responded to Lynch fit by caving to his demands, the rest of the team could take that as an effective way to renegotiate. And that would go against the team all in, bring it every day culture.
Lynch has made his own rules because he can. He simply that good. Since joining the Seahawks four years ago, he has matured, reduced the off field incidents and become one of the best players in the NFL. As a result, the Seahawks have allowed him freedom and space and embraced his many quirks.
has his own things going on, center Max Unger said of Lynch probable Carlos Hyde Kids Jersey holdout. love to have him, but by no means would it change my view of him. Not at all. The guy has more than proven himself and shown he capable of coming to training camp in shape. As long as he does his thing on Sunday, I got no problems with him at all.
It has been an ideal marriage. But this week ruckus is a clear sign that we nearing the end. This is the beginning of Lynch final chapter as a Seahawk. And it doesn figure to be a happy, graceful, storybook ending.
How long will this chapter be? Well, I don think it has to be as short as speculated. If Lynch comes back this season and performs like he did in 2012 (1,590 yards, 12 touchdowns), then he get both the $5.5 million he scheduled to make in 2014 and the $7.5 mil he could earn in 2015. And if he doesn get all that money, he have a new contract that gives him the financial security he wants.
There no certainty about how Lynch future will play out. In fact, he still in complete control. His plea for a new contract is being portrayed almost as a desperate attempt to stave off the inevitable. But the Seahawks master plan should be more flexible than that, and Lynch performance in 2014 will dictate what happens.
Right now, the best solution is for Lynch to come to minicamp in good faith next week while emphasizing that he wants a more certain future. He won get a new contract immediately, but the Seahawks appreciate his talent and toughness, and if there a way to give him more money in a deal that is structured to be cap friendly, Schnei would be open to exploring it. He doesn rule out anything.
But one thing is certain: If Lynch tries to stiff arm his way to extra cash, he find his franchise is harder to budge than Tracy Porter, his infamous Beast Quake victim.

Former Giants player Derrick Ward rips ESPN for showing Michael Sam's smooch with boyfriend
Getty Images Derrick Ward, who retired from the Houston Texans in 2012, didn't join in the celebrations after ESPN showed footage of Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend on Saturday.
Former Giants running back Derrick Ward, a member of the team's Super Bowl championship team in 2007, slammed ESPN for showing Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend after he became the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team.
Ward, who retired from the Houston Texans in 2012, said the sports network's decision to run footage of the kiss after the St. Louis Rams selected Sam on Saturday set a bad example for children.
"Man U got little kids lookin at the draft," Ward griped on Twitter Saturday. "I can't believe ESPN even allowed that to happen."
ESPN ESPN captured Sam's emotional kiss with boyfriend Vito Cammisano after he learned he was picked by the St. Louis Rams in the NFL draft.
Sam broke down in tears when the Rams made him the 249th overall pick in the draft. Like many drafted players do, Sam celebrated by kissing his significant other Vito Cammisano.
Ward, who was drafted by the Jets in 2004, sparked outrage with his tweet. But he didn't back down.
"Everyone who comments on my page saying what dude did was fine is getting blocked," Ward tweeted. "So far I've blocked 10 people."
He went on to tweet that putting "your tongue into the other person's mouth is a little overboard. But people seen that as oh i'm bashing him because he's gay. Who cares!!!"
Ward tweeted, 'Man U got little kids lookin at the draft. I can't believe ESPN even allowed that to happen.'
Miami Dolphins player Don Jones also expressed his disdain for Sam's on air smooch, tweeting, "omg." When Twitter followers asked if he was referring to the kiss, Jones replied, "horrible."
Dolphins General Manager Dennis chiefsnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-zach-fulton-jersey.html Hickey said he was "disappointed" in Jones' comments.
