For some pathogens, such as R. equi (which causes pneumonia in foals) and Salmonella, no commercial vaccines are available, period. Preventive medicine rests not only on properly timed vaccinations, detailed farm management, deworming, and adequate nutrition but also on disinfectant for livestock.
