With his bright smile, cheerful attitude and a soft Southern accent, the Browns running back makes anything sound diplomatic. Richardson did everything he could Thursday not to criticize Clevelands coaches for not giving him the ball more last week in a loss to Miami. But Richardsons message was loud clear: He wants more touches. Richardson carried the ball 13 times for 47 yards in the season-opening, 23-10 loss to Miami. But he only gained 14 on five rushes in the second half, and did not carry the ball once in the fourth quarter as the Browns tried to rally through the air. "I just dont think they stopped the running game," he said, referring to the Dolphins. "I think we stopped it ourselves as far as we were behind and stuff like that. Weve just got to keep fighting and know that no matter what, weve got to stick to our game plan. I guess Coach had another game plan and it went that way." Richardsons remarks were similar to what he said many... less

The proposed legislation would create a provincial athletics commission with the authority to sanction professional combative sports, including MMA. The commission would be responsible for ensuring that competitors had medical exams before and after fights and that qualified medical staff, referees, judges and timekeepers were hired. It would also ensure that promoters and competitors had the proper licences. MMA facility owner and jiu-jitsu instructor A.J. Scales says having a commission would allow mixed martial arts to grow in Saskatchewan. Scales also says the commission would be the voice of safety for competitors. "We have somebody thats going to oversee and govern their sport and actually be an advocate for them and make the popularity of the sport grow," Scales said Tuesday at the legislature. "Theyre going to have doctors in place. Theyre going to be able to be that third party thats going... less

Zanetti will retire after 19 seasons at Inter, and the stadium was sold out as fans packed in to bid farewell to their 40-year-old captain. Lazio threatened to spoil the party when Giuseppe Biava scored the opening goal inside two minutes to stun San Siro. However, Rodrigo Palacio scored twice, either side of Mauro Icardis strike, and Hernanes netted against his former club to secure victory. At the end of the match, footage was shown on the big screens of Zanettis greatest Inter moments, and the clearly emotional player was led out by his family, peers and club presidents, with all his teammates wearing shirts with his number four on it. To chants of "theres only one captain," Zanetti took the microphone and thanked the fans and teammates. "I have always tried to honour and defend the Inter shirt in every country in... less

Crawford led off the 10th inning with a game-ending drive into McCovey Cove to give the San Francisco Giants a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. "It feels good," he said. "I wanted to hit one in there for a long time. Im glad I finally got to." Pablo Sandoval also homered and Angel Pagan drove in two runs for the Giants, who bounced back from a 1-0 loss on Saturday to take two of three in the series. Crawford turned on the second pitch thrown by Rex Brothers (1-1) and drove it into the water on the fly for his first career walkoff homer and first splash homer. "He smoked that one," manager Bruce Bochy said. "I asked him if he ever hit one further." The homer also helped Crawford show Bochy that he deserves more at-bats against left-handed pitchers. Bochy said earlier this season that Crawford might sit against certain lefties after hitting just .199 off them last season. But he is 7 for 14 so far this... less

Prandelli and the federation had already verbally agreed on the extension two months ago. His previous contract was set to expire after the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. Prandelli left Fiorentina to take charge of the Azzurri in 2010 and transformed Italy from a side that was eliminated in the first round of the World Cup to Euro 2012 runner-up. The Wild Get: D Tom Gilbert. Gilbert, 29, is a skilled defenceman whose production has fallen since his first couple years in the league, to the point that he has modest totals of three goals and 17 points in 47 games this season. Gilbert also has a minus-4 rating, while playing nearly 23 minutes per game. To his credit, Gilbert ranked best among Oilers defencemen in shot differential this season (plus-0.1, per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 play; www.behindthenet.ca) while facing the second-highest level of competition. While Gilbert has size (6-foot-3, 206 pounds), he tends to play a passive game (his 1.15 hits per game this season was lowest among Edmonton defencemen), but his strength is in a puck-moving role and the Oilers have developed a couple of replacements this season, as Jeff Petry and Corey Potter have played significant roles for the... less

Coach Jose Pekerman has until June 2 to name the final 23-man squad. Falcao has been sidelined since January. If he recovers in time -- surgeons initially gave him a 50-50 chance -- Colombia could be one of the real threats in the World Cup. "I am getting better and Im very happy with how the knee is reacting," Falcao wrote this week on social media. "Im starting on the pitch with the ball, again getting used to what used to be familiar." Falcao has been in Monaco, Spain and Portugal undergoing his rehab. If Falcao cant make it back, more responsibility for Colombias attack will rest with James Rodriguez, who plays with Falcao at Monaco. Colombias defence looks solid. It is led by 38-year-old Mario Yepes, who has made more than 100 international appearances. Colombia allowed only 13 goals in 16 matches to have the best record in South American... less

Carter illustrated perfectly Wednesday night why Porter sticks with him. Carter homered twice, Dallas Keuchel pitched eight strong innings and the Astros beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1. Carters first solo home run made it 3-1 in the fourth inning, and he added an opposite-field shot in the seventh. It was the fifth career multihomer game for Carter and second this year. The slugger has struggled this season and is batting just .199, but his power is undeniable and hes tied for the team lead with 12 homers. "Hes been up and down this year," Porter said. "The power numbers are there. The batting average is not there, but at the same time hes had some big hits and tonight is a step in a huge direction to him getting going." Carter led the Astros with 29 homers and 82 RBIs last year in his first full season in the majors. He... less

Meanwhile, there were huge victories for Sunderland and West Ham over fellow relegation rivals, leaving the battle to avoid the drop up for grabs with the bottom 11 teams separated by just six points. Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres scored second-half goals to seal a fourth straight victory for Chelsea, which climbed above Arsenal and Manchester City in the standings ahead of their games on Monday and Sunday respectively. The Leafs also sent the 94th pick in Saturdays NHL draft to St. Louis in the deal. The Blues used the pick to select Finnish goaltender Ville Husso. Polak, a 28-year-old right-handed defenceman, fills a need Toronto had for a stay-at-home defenceman. Breakdowns contributed to an eight-game losing streak near the end of the season that tanked the Leafs playoff hopes. Those cheers seemed more special this time because the captains run on Broadway could soon be over. The adoration surely sounded much nicer to Callahan than all the recent trade talk. Callahan shook that off and scored two first-period goals to lead New York to its fourth straight win, 5-1 over the Avalanche on Tuesday night. Callahan is eligible for free agency after the season, and if he doesnt reach a new contract agreement with the Rangers before two upcoming trade deadlines, he could be sent packing. "I try not to bring that business to the rink," Callahan said. "I try to concentrate on the Rangers and what were doing here. Thats my main focus. Jagr scored the winning goal to snap a third-period tie and lead the New Jersey Devils to a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. It was the 21st goal of the season and sixth game-winning tally for Jagr, who is the NHLs career leader with 124. It also marked the 702nd career goal for the 42-year-old forward, who earlier this season became the seventh player to score 700 NHL goals. Jagr, in his 20th NHL season, is enjoying the opportunity the Devils have provided him. "Without the fun at my age, theres no chance you can play," Jagr said. "You have to grab the opportunity. I got a chance to play and now its up to me what kind of advantage I take of it." While outsiders might be surprised by Jagrs success, those close to him arent. Carter was a scoring machine, sure, but he did it with a certain flair that endeared him to youngsters. Now, those kids are starting to come of age.Led by Anthony Bennett and Andrew Wiggins, the past two No. 1 overall picks in the NBA draft, the Canadian pipeline has begun to gush with talent. Eight players from the nation have been picked in the first round of the draft in the past four years, a number made even more remarkable by the fact that very few players had even played in the NBA before the 1990s.You know what people up there tell me changed everything? They attribute it to Vince, Dawkins said. It inspired kids in Canada who... less

Sven Andrighetto and Greg Pateryn had goals for the Bulldogs (24-25-5). Michael Schumacher and Stefan Elliot scored for the Monsters (23-26-5), and Calvin Pickard stopped 29 shots in a losing effort. Holland scored the eventual game-winning goal in the fourth round of the shootout, out-waiting Pickard with a series of dekes and sliding the puck through his five hole. Andrew Agozzino attempted to level the shootout in the fifth round, but Mayer denied his wrist shot with a butterfly save to end the game. Two penalties within the first five minutes for the Monsters gave the Bulldogs plenty of offensive zone time to work with early. The figure is $119 million higher than a previous profit figure reported in April, but is still dwarfed by the government subsidies given to the organizing committee, valued at $420 million in December. The Sochi organizing committee said its projected surplus is a record for any games. The 1984 Los Angeles Olympics produced a surplus of $232 million. The 2008 Beijing Games claimed a profit of over $146 million, while the 2012 London Olympics recorded an $8 million surplus. The surplus is only from the Sochi organizing committee, which had an operations budget of about $2 billion. It does not cover any construction or infrastructure costs. Russias overall spending for the games totalled $51 billion. Sochi organizing committee chief Dmitry Chernyshenko said in a statement that all the profit would be "oriented towards the development of sport in Russia," with plans to provide "a... less

Scolari says that although Brazilians have the right to complain about the government and demand improvements, perhaps the protests wont be coming at the "right time." He said the protests "could, big-time" affect his players performance during the World Cup, although he will not prohibit them from talking about the subject during the tournament. In an interview with Globo TV late Sunday, Scolari also said Brazil should have done a better job in its preparations for the World Cup, and said he has already made up his mind on 21 of the 23 players of his squad. Violent anti-government protests erupted across Brazil last year as people took to the streets calling for better services and questioning the billions being spent on hosting the World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics. The protests have since diminished in size, but they are widely... less

Max Parrot posted the days best score, a 97.50 in his second run. Sebastien Toutant also made it through to Saturdays final as the Sochi Olympics opened with one of the new events debuting at the games. He hurt his wrist during a training run on Tuesday but initially indicated he would not miss the event. His decision to withdraw was mocked by Parrot and Toutant on social media. The Montreal Canadiens netminder participated in light full practice drills at the teams morning skate and took the majority of reps at one end of the ice while sharing a net with Dustin Tokarski. Price worked with Peter Budaj and Tokarski during Tuesdays skate and was dropping to the butterfly position, considered progress in his rehab. During the teams recent west coast road trip, the 26-year-old Price was only making lateral and forward/backward movements in his net while staying on his feet. Once the team switched to 3-1 and 3-2 drills, Price worked alone with goaltending coach Stephane Waite, with heavy concentration on staying in his butterfly. Price originally suffered a lower-body injury at the Sochi Olympics. In the first post-Olympics practice, he left the ice after moving laterally to make a save during a power-play drill. He was placed on injured reserve on March 3. Head coach Michel Therrien said following Tuesdays... less
