Yuyao Linsheng-The Meaning Of Air Compressor Specifications

In the field of wireless impact wrenches, it seems a bit old to talk about air compressors. However, pneumatics provide unmatched and reliable power.

Pneumatic tools may stick to grease and metal shavings in the repair shop, while electric motors are the opposite. Pneumatic tools are more elastic and less prone to wear.

Pneumatic tools also provide higher torque ratings than power tools. Impact wrenches with torque ratings exceeding 1,000 foot pounds are common. With airpower, you spend less time arguing on bolts, and more time is spent on finishing work.

The air compressor includes a small electric pump that collects the surrounding air and pumps it into the storage tank. The pressure switch monitors the pressure build-up in the storage tank and turns off the compressor when the target pressure is reached.

This air reserve can then be used.

Important specifications
Air compressors come in various shapes and sizes. They range from a 12-volt mini battery (used to inflate car tires) as part of the emergency quick start kit to a large rotary pump for industrial systems.

In order to distinguish the functions of these different machines — and help you get the right size for routine car maintenance — you need to pay attention to two important specifications.

The first is PSI. PSI is pounds per square inch, it is the force required to take action. Most tools require at least 90 PSI.

The second is SCFM or standard cubic feet per minute. This is the amount of air flowing.

For tools such as pneumatic wrenches that are to be run in a short time, SCFM is less important, PSI is more important. Generally, it is easier to find a cheap air wrench to operate an air wrench than to find a paint sprayer.

However, for high-flow tools (such as die grinders, sandblasters, and paint sprayers), you need more airflow (or SCFM), but lower pressure (PSI).

Horsepower is also worth mentioning. When shopping, you will see many tools classified by horsepower. However, the rated power can only tell you how big the motor that drives the compressor. In general, it is best to use PSI and SCFM as the main unit of comparison when shopping.

What size air compressor do you need?
Now that we have covered the main definitions, the answer to the correct choice of air compressor size becomes very easy: check the specifications of the tool and then find the compressor that matches it.

For impact wrenches or ratchets (the two tool types you may use the most), you will need ratings of about 90 PSI and 4 SCFM.

The Pancake Air Compressor is one of the most popular models used by contractors in homes. However, the nail gun only requires 2-3 SCFM and 90 PSI. These ratings make the pancake compressor's hair too small to be used reliably in stores, especially if you are trying to rebuild the engine cover.

For your family car store, the ideal option is to shop in the 20 to 30 gallon range. Not only do they have the required power, but they also retain air, which allows you to perform some larger tasks, such as running a die grinder or cutting tools.

You can also use it for painting small projects, such as quarter panels or new hoods. (The 20-gallon fuel tank will not fill the entire vehicle without hours of practice, because you will need to drain the oil frequently to prevent it from entering the system. These long waits make it harder to smooth. If yes Paint is an important task for you, so it may be worth buying a 60-gallon fuel tank.)

Is your circuit strong enough?
The last point to consider is whether the wiring in your workshop can support the compressor.

Most 60-gallon compressors require 220 volt wiring. Before squandering such a large device, you may need to call an electrician to see how much it will cost to open a new outlet for it.

Even a 30-gallon compressor can consume 15-20 amps. The allowable current for most circuits is 20 A or less, which means that if the compressor and the beer refrigerator are on the same circuit, it may cause the circuit breaker to trip.

The circuit is not a problem that you cannot solve, but you need to pay attention. You may end up putting the compressor in the back corner of the store so that you can put it on a separate circuit and then use a longer air hose.
