The 29-year-old Bailey was 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA and eight saves in 13 chances for the World Series champions, making 30 appearances before season-ending shoulder surgery on July 24. He was limited to 19 games in 2012, the first season after the Red Sox acquired him from Oakland. Bailey made $4.1 million, and by letting him go free the Red Sox could sign him without the 20 per cent maximum cut rule applying. The 25-year-old Kalish missed the entire season due to a right shoulder operation in January and cervical fusion surgery in August. He hit .243 with four homers, 29 RBIs and 13 steals for the Red Sox in 2010 and 2012. Among those offered contracts were right-handers Burke Badenhop and Junichi Tazawa; first baseman-outfielder Mike Carp; and left-handers Andrew Miller and Franklin Morales. Satchel Paige Jersey. In what would have been a matchup of the last two NBA MVPs, Durant was the only one to play as Clevelands LeBron James sat out with left knee discomfort. Westbrook paced the Thunder with 26 points to go along with eight assists and Durants 19 points helped close out their fourth straight win. Kyrie Irving had to pick up the slack with James on the bench and he accounted for 20 points on 7-of-21 shooting. Kevin Love netted 18 points with 16 rebounds for the Cavs, who had their eight-game winning streak halted. Oklahoma City opened the fourth just where it left off the third. Reggie Jackson scored the quarters first five points and Anthony Morrow knocked down a triple to stake the hosts to an 86-66 margin with 10:24 to play. Cleveland didnt falter, however, as Anderson Varejaos five points led a... less

Countless solitary hours spent in the gym, pushing your body to its limit, striving for just the slightest improvement in your game. While those hours in the gym can be lonely, the light at the end of the tunnel - being able to walk onto the pitch to compete along with your teammates - is always there for you, pulling you through the pain. No one knows that pain better than Kara Lang. For the past year, Lang has been been working day and night to re-train her body; to break it down so that she could build it up again, in the hopes that she could resume a career she was forced to end in 2011. It was then, at the age of 24, that she retired from the game. "I have come to the very difficult decision to retire from soccer and step down from the national team," she said. "I have always held myself to a very high standard — as it is demanded at the international level. Regrettably, I am physically incapable of maintaining that standard and... less

Jets are now 5-2 in their last seven road games. The win also snapped a three game winless streak for the Jets. The road trip continues Tuesday in Buffalo (TSN Jets, TSN 1290), the fourth back to back situation for the Jets this season. Jets are 0-2-1 in the second game. It was a tight checking affair in Columbus, with not a lot of scoring chances in the first. Neither Jets goaltender Al Montoya nor Blue Jackets goaltender Mike McKenna was busy with the shots and after one the totals were 7-5 in favour of the Jets. Jacob Trouba was involved in his first NHL fight as he very much held his own against Matt Calvert. Adam Pardy and Nick Foligno also picked up fighting majors in the opening period. The games opening goal came at 13:59 of the second, with Mark Scheifele putting an Evander Kane pass into the top part of the net for his fourth of the year. Kane was back after... less

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy joined Hall of Famer Warren Sapp on the NFL Network to make the announcement on Thursday night. The Bucs will continue to wear pewter colour helmets. In addition to an enlarged logo, still featuring a red battle flag with a skull sitting over crossed swords and a football, the head gear will sport the first chrome facemasks used by a NFL team. It is Tampa Bays first helmet and logo redesign since 1997, when the Bucs stopped wearing creamsicle orange jerseys and a helmet bearing the image of a winking pirate. Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves for his 56th career shutout in the New York Islanders 3-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night. The Islanders scored all of their goals in the first period. Hollis-Jefferson, widely considered the best sixth man in the nation and a first-round pick in next years NBA draft should be declare, injected some life into Arizona at the 14:57 mark of the second half. Trailing by three, Stanley Johnson drove baseline and dished to a cutting Hollis- Jefferson, who rose up and threw down a lefty slam over 7-foot-6 center Mamadou Ndiaye. The Wildcats outscored Irvine 35-17 from there. Hollis-Jefferson scored a game-high 19 points, T.J. After blossoming into an All Star in Toronto, he opted out of his contract because he felt uncomfortable that his kids were singing O Canada. And learning the metric system. These were actual reasons he gave. I do not predict Amir Johnson feeling similarly. Something is happening — has happened — and it is a genie for whom the bottle will forever be too cramped. Turns out, after two decades of tumult and failure, subtly and steadily, Toronto has turned into a basketball mecca. In a fitting end to the roundball dominance of Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, each respectively has been or is being upset by Wizards, common decency and your Toronto Raptors. This isnt emphatic hype from a success-starved fan. This is real. This is how the future of Toronto basketball is going to play out. (Results guaranteed or your money back.) First, Toronto is going to beat the Brooklyn Nets. They are going to do this... less

Vancouver is 0-2-1 over its last three games and has dropped the first two tests of a five-game homestand in regulation. The slide has damaged the clubs already fragile playoff hopes, and the Canucks enter Saturday seven points out of the Western Conferences last postseason berth with only five games left on their schedule. Canucks captain Henrik Sedin is expected back in the lineup tonight after missing four games. The Kings, meanwhile, officially earned a fifth straight trip to the postseason following Wednesdays home win over Phoenix. Vancouver will try to avoid getting swept by the Kings in the season series on Saturday. Los Angeles is 4-0 versus the Canucks this season and has won seven of the last 10 meetings between the clubs. Nigeria striker Peter Odemwingie pounced on a defensive error to clip home a third-minute winner at Carrow Road for West Brom, which ended a run of three straight losses to climb into midtable. "I think there will be a new atmosphere in the dressing room now," said Odemwingie, who was making his first start of the season after injury. "It was very important to win away, especially after three defeats." Blackburn hung on for a draw at Craven Cottage after surrendering a lead given to the visitors by Spanish youngster Ruben Rochina, who smashed an unstoppable shot in off the underside of the bar from the edge of the area in the 32nd minute. England striker Bobby Zamora equalized five minutes later for Fulham, leaving both teams stuck in the bottom three. Blackburn... less

Hyun-Jin Ryu outpitched Adam Wainwright with seven innings of three-hit ball, and Yasiel Puig celebrated twice on his RBI triple that helped Los Angeles beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 Monday night in Game 3. Adrian Gonzalezs RBI double ended a 1-for-17 drought for the Dodgers with runners in scoring position. An ailing Hanley Ramirez added a run-scoring hit as Los Angeles handed Wainwright his first post-season loss and trimmed its deficit to 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. "The playoffs are one-day momentum swings," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Right now I feel like weve kind of grabbed it." Jonas Brodin scored for the Wild, who lost their fifth straight on the road. Niklas Backstrom made 36 saves. "Thats not the way you want to start a game," Wild forward Jason Pominville said. Lindells kick came after Jacksonvilles Josh Scobee missed a 53-yard attempt. It was a back-and-forth game in which Buffalo squandered a 17-point first half lead and had to overcome a 15-point second-half deficit. With much of the crowd gone by halftime, Tyler Thigpen forced overtime by hitting Paul Hubbard on a four-yard touchdown pass with 38 seconds left. The two hooked up again for a two-point conversion. Not that many were left watching in a game in which much of the crowd had left by halftime, the starters sat the bench and the game was approaching its fourth hour. Both teams are 1-2. Luis Enrique signed the deal with club president Josep Bartomeu two days after it was announced by the club.
