Studies show that standing desk has many benefits, from burning calories to reducing back and neck pain. A good standing desk can help you get out of your chair so you're not sitting all day.
For this guide, we tested and researched several small standing desk and standing desk converters. We spoke with experts and peers who use standing desks to get more insight for desks we didn't personally test.
The desks and converters in this guide meet our criteria for customization options, ease of assembly, price, durability, and more.

Dozens of five-star reviewers compare this FEZIBO electric standing desk to others on the market and write that it outperforms them in terms of ease of use and price. At just over $200, nearly 500 reviewers describe the price as affordable, including one who was shocked he could get this desk “for almost the same price” as some standing-desk converters: “Exactly what I wanted,” he writes. “I love the presets. It’s very smooth and pretty fast. I find myself standing for almost half my day now.” Another reviewer purchased this desk for her pandemic work-from-home setup and was “pleasantly surprised” by the quality. “It looks much nicer than its price would let on,” she writes, adding that the desk is “stable, and the motor doesn’t seem to have any trouble going up and down,” even with the added weight of all of her office supplies. The motorized lifts also have customizable adjustable-height settings — the feature that convinced one reviewer he needed the desk. “Fast when it rises and lowers to your height based on your input,” he writes.
Although this desk is advertised as a laptop cart, many reviewers say it works as a electric standing desk since it extends to 33 inches tall — only about a foot shorter than most of the other desks on this list. “The ergonomic feature works well so that you can seamlessly adjust from standing to sitting,” writes one customer who says the wheels “move smoothly” enough to roll it around their house and that the desktop “accommodates a 13-inch MacBook with plenty of room to use a mouse.” And though it looks small, other reviewers agree it has enough surface space for day-to-day work supplies, including one who says it “fits in small spaces yet leaves enough room for a mouse, phone, or coffee with a laptop.” And though it is the least-expensive standing desk on our list, over 100 five-star reviewers describe this desk as sturdy. One even uses the word twice in his short review: “It’s sturdy, the adjustable-height feature is great, it’s the perfect size for the laptop and mouse pad, and it seems really sturdy and well built. For the price, it can’t be beat!”
This FEZIBO crank standing desk has an manual lift system, and reviewers especially appreciate its slightly bigger, manual control lift construction. “This desk is big enough for my laptop, an extra monitor, a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and a light, while still having space for paperwork,” says one reviewer, who adds that the desk has made it easier to work from home during the pandemic. Another says that it’s so large, there’s even “extra space for my cat to chill on the corner. This desk also comes with a metal rack to hold your wires and power supply,” as well. Dozens of other reviewers also call out that under-desk cable-management basket, which makes their workspace look nicer. One customer explains, “I secured a power strip to the bottom of the desk so only have one cord running from floor to desk,” adding that it’s easy to “wrap wires in the box and keep everything off the floor and moving with the desk.”
More than 500 five-star reviewers say there’s a lot to love about this double-decker standing gaming desk. “The perfect size for a productive home office. I can comfortably fit multiple monitors or an ultrawide display with enough room on either side for an iPad, a desktop, a laptop stand, etc.,” writes one reviewer of the 55-inch workspace. “All-in-all great desk for the price, and I’ve noticed a pretty drastic improvement in my lower-back pain since using it,” they conclude. Another (tall) reviewer says it rises to the “perfect height” for their six-foot-six frame and likes that the added level “allows for additional storage of items underneath.” The desk is also easy to put together, according to one reviewer who found it to be the Goldilocks of standing computer desk: “This one is the one. The cost is good, shipping was fast, assembly was fast, and the desk is not too big and not too small.”
If you have more room within your office space, you don't have to stick to a traditional rectangular-sized desktop. Jarvis' standing computer desk models have a bit more flexibility in height settings (between 25" and 50.75" in total), and the L-shaped configuration also comes in a multitude of dimensions for various office sizes. While the base model doesn't have storage, Jarvis' desks are fully customizable, and you can add storage solutions, power outlets, sleek cable managers, and even a mechanical arm to support mounted monitors.
"The rule of thumb is that too much sitting is going to shorten your life," Alan a certified ergonomist and professor in the Department of Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell University, told Insider Reviews. During the workday, you should be doing a mixture of standing, sitting, and moving, if possible.
