Ink Roller vs Digital Fingerprinting. Which Is Better?
The use of fingerprints for reliable personal identification is well established. The conventional ink-and-roll method has been used to record fingerprints for more than a century. Live scan fingerprinting technology is quickly displacing the traditional ink and roll method.
Ink & Roll Fingerprinting Process
On a glass or metal surface, a specialized fingerprint ink pad is utilized, or a thin layer of fingerprinting ink is applied using a rubber roller. Rolling the person's fingers from nail edge to nail edge first on the ink layer, then on the paper surface, creates rolled impressions. Fingers are gently pushed on the ink layer, followed by the paper, to create flat impressions.
The following restrictions apply to ink & Roll fingerprinting:
Fingerprints may reveal ink smudging if the pressure is not regulated or the ink layer is not even.
The ridge features may be lost if the ink is too fluid and gets into the furrows.
The inked fingerprints must be scanned and encrypted for electronic transmission.
The entire process must be repeated if some of the fingerprints are not clear enough to be read on the original fingerprint form.
The applicant needs to clean their black ink-stained hands.
Digital Fingerprinting Process
