Document Review

Do you know what a document review attorney actually does?

I never heard the name document Review Lawyer or "document reviewer" until a few months after my second attorney attempt. At first, it seemed like a dream job. Do they pay to sit and read documents and always have a project to catch?

In fact, I put the place on a pedestal and it felt like a golden bead, a way out of the mundane things I'm currently doing for a company that will close soon. Well, in early June, I was finally able to jump into the Legal document analysis project, which was completely different from what I had imagined. Below, we discuss what document reviewers actually do, how to fight everyday stressors.

1. Siting chair A lot.

Now, this may seem like common sense. In most of the office jobs, you sit a lot. My current position as a document reviewer a desk job. The difference is that in that position I can get up and stretch my legs when I want. And many of my colleagues enjoyed walking in the Florida heat. There was always a chance to move and walk. I'm working on the Legal Document Review analysis project, so I don't have time to move.

Scratch. Enough time to move, but you should not do so. Document Review Project managers need a warm body that digs through the eDiscovery file and codes it as "responsive"(related to the case or the problem in the case) or "no response". It doesn't happen for a long time that many document reviewers who get hourly salaries miss out on money.

On the first day, I was too scared to move (I said we should take time if we were out of our desks for more than 5 minutes.) I was afraid I'd lose a few dollars if I did. So I sat, bent, coded, and had a bad migraine. I knew immediately. If you continue to do so, you will not be able to continue the project. So I made a plan instead. Now I wake up at least every hour for a toilet break and for a few minutes in the sun. Literally, walk around the parking lot. I still get all my work done and do extra work, but at the end of the day I'm miserable and not sick. Sometimes stretch or squat a few times, shaking your legs at computer work.

2. Other people are strange

I like to think I'm a strange duck. Well, don't think. My mom has called me one since birth. But other document reviewers are weird. They are very disappointed in the project manager and email him with different questions every few hours, and then express their dissatisfaction with his answers. I'm exhausted because most of the questions and concerns are about unimportant issues or basic computer errors on the e-Discovery platform. There's actually nothing to stretch your arms, but they do.

In addition, some people will want or need to chat frequently. And others do not. There are people in the room with me who have not said a word, there are three older women who know my whole life story and I am theirs.

If you are a person who needs human contact all day, you need to find these people and open your mind. It will make this ordinary thing much more interesting, and time will go much faster.

3. Wearing headphones

First, you will need to undergo training on the first day, which requires the use of headphones. This training is a brief review of how to use the e-Discovery platform, who to send questions to, questions to send, and the basics of reviewing documents. Second, I can't emphasize enough how good it is to retreat into a bubble whenever I feel good. Wearing headphones prevents the noise of clicks, inputs, chews, jibes, which can inevitably fill the surrounding space.

In addition, the review of documents can be very banal and boring. Load music and podcasts on your phone and use headphones to spend your time much more enjoyable.

If you are considering legal review services, you should be aware that they are like other tasks. If an event is interesting or you can figure out a way to keep people around you entertained or busy, it can be fun. For many lawyers, this type of role offers incredible flexibility, the ability to earn consistent cash, and the opportunity to meet new people.

Do you want one more? Of course, especially now that you know what document review lawyers actually do and how to fight the everyday boredom some projects can throw at you.
