Brazilian Butt Lift

Improve the roundness and fullness of your buttocks with a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Background

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), or buttock/gluteal augmentation, improves the shape, size, and contour of the buttocks.

Characteristics of the ideal candidate can include:

  • Good general health
  • Asymmetric buttocks
  • Desire for larger buttocks

Desire for rounder buttocks

Process

This is an outpatient procedure requiring general anesthesia. There are two types of BBLs: (1) implant-based and (2) fat grafting. Dr. Ashraf performs the fat-grafting procedure only. This is done in junction with liposuction of other areas, often the abdomen.

After anesthesia, liposuction is the first step for this procedure. While excellent results require sufficient fat collected from liposuction, the patient’s physiology is the determining factor. The results will be less defined if the body does not “take” most of the fat injected into the buttocks.

The collected body fat is then processed and stored in syringes to be reinjected into the buttocks. The injection points are based on the highest level of patient safety, patient goals, and Dr. Ashraf’s expertise. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, an average of 60-80% of injected fat is retained on the buttock area following a BBL.

Recovery

Dr. Ashraf provides detailed post-operative checklists to her surgical patients. Generally, she recommends her patients do the following:

  • Plan to take at least one week off from work or regular routine for recovery. No heavy lifting or swimming for at least 6 weeks following surgery.
  • Prioritize weekly follow-up appointments 4-6 weeks after surgery. Post-surgical follow-up appointments are critical.
  • Patients are prescribed pain medications, though most patients are off these medications after 1 week.
  • Immediately following surgery, you will need to sleep on your stomach or side. And, you will need a pillow to sit.
  • Give up to one year for the results to be final
