As Zoology is a specialized science subject, only biosciences graduates or MBBS graduates pursue it as an optional. Animal anatomy, physiology, biology, biochemistry, development, ecology, conservation, and behavior are all topics studied in Zoology.

Unlike the subjects from humanities streams like History, Geography, Public Administration and Political Science, a very limited number of aspirants opt for Zoology. It is preferred by aspirants who have a background in Zoology and have studied this subject in their graduation or post graduation. If you have not studied Zoology in your graduation or post-graduation, please do not even think to opt this for the Civil Services Exam. Since the number of aspirants who appear in IAS Main Examination and opt for this subject is very limited, this is a blessing in disguise. The competition in the subject is relatively less.
