How far is Ladakh from Delhi? How to reach Ladakh?

Ladakh is a beautiful place in Jammu and Kashmir. It extends from the Kunlun mountain range to the Great Himalayas. The culture and history of this region is closely related to Tibet, since people inhabiting this area are mostly of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. The beauty of the mountains and the unique culture of Ladakh is what this region is known for. If you are planning a trip to Ladakh, you should definitely visit Zanskar Valley, Pangong Tso lake, Kargil, Khardung- La pass, Nubra Valley, Magnetic Hill, Spituk Gompa Monastery, Hemis National Park, Shanti Stupa and Hemis Monastery among others.

If you are planning a trip to Ladakh with friends or family, and you do not know which means of communication will be most feasible, here I am to help you with your problem. You can either choose to book a cab or take a personal car, or take a flight to reach Leh. There is no station for Leh- Ladakh. The nearest station to Leh is Jammu Tawi, which is at a distance of 708 kms from Ladakh by road.

If you chose to travel by flight, it will take you around an hour and a half to reach Leh from New Delhi. Leh is a military airport located in a stunning setting. Located at a very high altitude, the airport is small but quite efficient. Low cost airlines flying to Leh are Jet Airways, Vistara, GoAir, Air India and Spicejet. Other airlines flying to Leh include Indigo, and Jetkonnect. Flights to Leh land at the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport.

If you choose to go for a road trip or take a cab, it will take you around 3 and half days to reach your destination. Therefore, make sure you are energised enough for the journey and the halts in between at night for your stay during the journey since it eventually gets very tiring. But one thing that will keep you going if you travel by road is the beautiful view of mountains and the wavy roads. The sight is jaw-dropping! There are two routes that lead to Ladakh. One is Srinagar to Leh and the other is Manali to Leh. For the Srinagar to Leh route, the highway usually opens early May to late June. The route is Srinagar- Sonmarg- Zoji La- Drass- Kargil- Mulbek- Lamayuru- Saspol- Leh. For the Manali to Leh route, the best time to visit is from June to September. The route is Manali- Rohtang- Gramphu- Kokhsar- Keylong- Jispa- Darchu- Zingzingbar- Baralacha La- Bharatpur- Sarchu- Gata Loops- Nakee La- Lachulung La- Pang- Tanglang La- Gya- Upshi- Karu- Leh. The former covers a distance of 434 kilometres and the latter covers a distance of 490 kilometres. The best part about the road trip will be that you can halt anytime and anywhere to enjoy the scenic beauty!

If you choose to travel by train, there are no direct trains or buses between New Delhi to Leh. Closest railway station is Jammu Tawi, located at a distance of 708 kms from Leh. Tickets can be booked with a PNR on IRCTC website easily.
