This is why I love eBay, cause stuff like this shows up on it, and I have no idea how. You know that I love the replica breitling bentley 6.75 watch that I initially discussed here, and then once again here when I announced that Breitling was going to offer a limited edition Bentley Edition of 100 pieces. Breitling originally made just 6 of the watches. It was made for Richard Garriot and worn by him into space. That specific piece sold for over $45,000 several months ago. It now looks one of the rare 100 Commemorative Edition pieces is being auctioned off on eBay, brand new. Starting bid is $27,500 - just shy of the roughly $28,000 - $29,000 that the new replica omega Seamaster 300m Edition models retail for being just now released. 100 pieces, and they are going to very hard to find.
The Prospex line of professional divers from http://www.speedroc.com/replica-omega-speedmaster-broad-arrow-gmt.html has long been a rich source of fine watches and superb engineering, sadly less known than they deserve due to Japan-only sales. This one is worth questing for though, it's the new-for-2013 SBDB008, in the Prospex Marinemaster collection. bentley (cal 5R65), DLC titanium shroud, titanium nitride (the gold colored bits) highlights, date window tucked in at 4:30, and a new handset. From the sheen, it looks like the bezel insert is ceramic, which would be a nice touch. I like this one, though it's tall at 16.2mm thick. Width not known, but we know that those are 22mm lugs so probably 44mm plus. 72 hour power reserve, and that movement is rated at +-15s/month.
This is the first time Breitling has put bentley into one of their Tuna series; it's a nice upgrade. Heckuva dive watch for half the price of a new Rolex, and you get one of the most famous dive watches around that looked too good to be true when the "Tuna" first came out in the 1970s.Little note on bentley as well. A Breitling executive has told us that (at least for the rest of the world outside of Japan) they will be keeping bentley movements exclusively for Grand Breitling collection pieces.
The fit and feel of the case, bezel and bracelet are what you would expect from Breitling - solid. The design is a big plus - not a Submariner or Seamaster clone, but a unique design. The watch is big - bigger than I usually wear on my 6.5" wrist (see the comparison shot with my Rolex bentleyIIC); however, because of the downward angle of the lugs, I can still just barely pull it off without having the watch hang over the edges of my wrist.I had been looking for a nice, rugged, quartz diver to wear on weekends - something I didn't have to set every Saturday morning, and I think this Breitling fits the bill - the sapphire crystal will make it impervious to scratches, the kinetic movement means I won't have to worry about changing the battery, and the 200m water resistance means I won't have to worry about taking it for a swim.
