Many consider having a taking up a spiritual practice to be internal personal hygiene. Just as there many ways (and products) to ensuring personal health, so are there ways to go about creating a system that works for you. It is from this approach that many emphasize the importance of having one. Just as external factors can affect your health, so can internal ones. There are consequences for not having an awareness of it, such as how CRA payroll deductions can transform your business- you may not be aware of what it is, but that won’t stop the implications. There are equally multiple definitions of what spirituality is, for some it is an ideal source within us while others mean it to be a balance of our bodies, emotions and the mind. It all stems from an awareness of self and connection to a Source that is universal. Though many people call it different things, it is enlightenment or Nirvana where love, gratitude, and compassion (along with other positive connotations) abide. In this space, you cannot harm. We all hope that everyone on this planet- from Diamond and Diamond Lawyers to the waitress who serves us- can exist in this place.  Apart from a lack of awareness of the importance, another reason people are not keen on developing a spiritual practice is the thinking that it is something you work hard on to produce. It is not so; it is something you already are so the requirement is to peel away the layer to get to the essence of the real you. A quick example is if you’re anxious about being late to an engagement; it gets you into a specific state. However, when you let go of the thought with the acceptance that nothing can be done about a situation, a peace or calm comes over a person. It, however, took the letting go of negativity to reach that space. Spiritual awareness also means doing things with intentionality. A simple task of becoming aware of the toothbrush stroking our teeth and the taste of the toothpaste in our mouths is a practice. Being present in doing activities leave less room for negative thoughts, emotions, and actions and instead brings about an appreciation and love for what’s happening. The more you let go off and be, the more you’re able to become attune with spiritual practices and implement them with ease, whatever that looks like for you.
