Decks are beautiful extensions of our houses, no doubt. From sitting and relaxing to having a big party, it serves us in many ways. But we often forget to take care of it. Decks require proper maintenance and care like other things rot, crack and breaks.
Helpful tips on deck maintenances
A deck doesn’t require much when it comes to maintenance. But if you follow the below rules, you can have your deck always good as new.
• Clean the deck- Before you go on to washing, you need to clean the deck. Remove everything from the balcony. From table- chairs to plants, clean the surface and prepare it for washing. Remember to check for debris and kids toys as well.
• Washing the deck- You need to wash your deck every six months or at least a year. Washing the deck will make sure the surface is free of all kinds of dirt and debris. You can clean the surface with a pipe that provides strong water force as it will help clean even the slightest chemical or build-up from or between the boards.
Especially before using any sealant, the surface of the deck needs to be thoroughly cleaned.
• Paint or stain the deck- You may choose to stain your deck or paint it as you like best. Staining and painting may sound similar but are different; one covers the surface while the other wood absorbs. Staining is recommended. Because colours can give an artificial look, and there is always fear or peeling. But staining the surface makes it look natural, glossy and stylish.
• Seal the deck- Sealing is the same as painting or staining. It doesn't change the appearance of the deck and used after the surface area is completely dry. A suitable sealant protects the deck from harmful UV rays and sun damages and is water repellent. Spraying is the fastest sealing method by far but needs precision.
Deck maintenance is not complex, but if you don’t have the time, you may call your deck builder to help you with the care.
