Types of Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a complex sport. It is a combination of flexibility, strength, agility, power, coordination and so on. Regardless of the type of gymnastics, a gymnast always required a tumbling mat for safety purposes. Due to the large number of demanding stunts that require the gymnast to twist, turn, or jump in an alluring manner, many parts of the body are constantly exposed to potential damage. Let us take a look at the different types of gymnastics and understand why safety should be amongst the prime concerns of every gymnast.

Artistic Gymnastics

The first type of gymnastics is the artistic gymnastics. It is a very prevalent form of gymnastics. It is subdivided into men and women gymnasts. The artists perform very short routines, and it varies for men and women. Women take part in vaults, uneven bars, balancing on the beam, and floor exercises. Men take part in floor exercises, still rings, vaults, high bars, or parallel bars. These gymnastics are performed by artists to display their talent by performing with some or other type of prop. Thus, it is termed “artistic gymnastics” because the artists are the stars here.


Rhythmic Gymnastic

As the name suggests, this gymnastic is connected to music. The beats of the music are the cue for the gymnasts to make their moves. It can be performed by women gymnasts also. The rhythmic gymnastics has a combination of ballet and gymnast which in itself is an awesome fusion of grace and strength. In this gymnastic, the gymnasts can use ball, ribbon, hoops, clubs, or any other apparatus to make it look even more appealing. This can be done in groups as well, and they can use two apparatuses for the act.

Aerobic Gymnastic

Aerobic gymnastic has just the aerobic exercises presented in a beautifully. It doesn’t include acrobatics. The two things essential to pull off an aerobic gymnastic act are flexibility and strength. This type of gymnastics can be performed by an individual, couple, trio, or a group. There are no restrictions on choosing the number of people.

Trampoline Gymnastics

Trampoline gymnastics is the one where trampoline is the key apparatus which the gymnasts use. The gymnasts perform acrobatics while bouncing on the trampoline. It is a complicated form of gymnastics and requires great control over the body to perform the act gracefully without any slips. Some of the movements done during this act are simple somersault, pike, tuck, twisting, somersaults, and so on. This sport is recognised by the Olympic games which have increased the popularity of trampoline gymnastics among people.

Acrobatic Gymnastics

This is another beautiful form of gymnastics. It is done in groups, trios, or couples. This type of gymnastics consists of jumps, twists, and acrobatics in the air forming human architecture and poses in an equilibrium state. In this form of gymnastics, the costumes and the choreography are the highlights. The formation plays an important role to make the act look good.
