AutoCAD vs. AutoCAD for Mac

AutoCAD is the product of the Autodesk. It is the 2- Dimensional and 3-Dimensional design software which is used construction, architecture, interior designing, and manufacturing industries. It was one of the CAD programs that could be executed on personal computers. Professionals who use AutoCAD are often referred to as drafters.Because different fields use AutoCAD in specific ways, there are several versions of the AutoCAD application for a variety of work types, such as architecture, mapping, and piping design. The following are some of the most common topics covered in AutoCAD design courses:-

  • Curves
  • 3D modeling
  • Multiple Lines
  • Geometric Shapes
  • Isometric drawings
  • Linear Dimensions
  • Polar Arrays
  • Layers and Line Types

AutoCAD can be used in both; Mac as well as PC. However, AutoCAD and AutoCAD for Mac are different on some levels. While AutoCAD is used for sharing drawing across desktop, cloud, and mobile and designing every detail with 2D and 3D CAD software, AutoCAD for Mac is used for designing every detail with 2D and 3D CAD software with a Mac interface along with sharing drawing across desktop, cloud, and mobile.

Both the software is used for 2D drafting, drawings and documentation and 3D modeling and visualization. Both the software is licensed to use by the single user as well as multi- user (network). However, some of the specialized Mac features include:

  • Coverflow navigation.
  • Multitouch gestures.
  • Multiview split screen.

AutoCAD products for Mac include the most popular functionality of the Windows versions of AutoCAD & AutoCAD LT. For both AutoCAD for Mac and AutoCAD LT for Mac, this includes 2D design, customization of the user interface, and much more. For full AutoCAD, support for LISP and ObjectARX/DBX applications, 3D design tools (including 3D free-form modeling), and 3D visualization are included.

AutoCAD products for Mac also create files in the same native DWG file format as the Windows AutoCAD products. However, AutoCAD products for Mac are not straight 1:1 ports of their Windows-based counterparts. AutoCAD products for Mac have a look and feel that is familiar to Mac users and a feature set most appropriate for the OS X environment.

When it comes to commands, there is no difference between them. The only major difference is in the layout of the AutoCAD Program. On the PC version they have what is known as the ribbon layout where you find most of your commands, and on the Mac it has bare bones appeal maximizing workspace. The second thing is that the file extension is DWG. This is pretty much the same program the only difference is that it is on Mac. Whatever you can do on the PC with AutoCAD you can do in the Mac version. Also, you cannot create dynamic blocks on the Mac version at all, you need to import the block after it has been created on PC in order to use them.
